Sport Reporter Job Opportunity

The Western Region Football League is seeking cadet sport reporters to join its media team.

The Western Region Football League is currently expanding its media department, and is looking to recruit a number of budding junior sports reporters to join its media team.

Current league publications include the weekly Footy Record (http://www.wrfl.org.au/record.htm) & Online Members Newsletter (http://www.wrfl.org.au/NEWSLETTER/FIRSTBOUNCE-03.htm).

While further developing these more traditional mediums, the league is also growing its presence across the internet & social media, with regular interactions through Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/WesternRegionFL), Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/WesternRegionFL), & Twitter.

The Western Region Football League website also attracts over 750,000 visits every year, and is a regular source of news for the 6000 players in the league.

The league is currently looking for a number of sports reporters to assist with writing & compiling coverage for the competition. The successful applicants will have the opportunity to be involved with all of the above, and will be able to gain valuable ‘hands on’ experience in the industry.

Applicants will also have the opportunity to be mentored under the WRFL’s current Media & Communications Officer. These positions will be voluntary, however the individual will get the opportunity to build a portfolio and attend regular league events & matches.

They are looking for individuals to cover both news & matches in both junior & senior competitions.

Individuals will be required predominantly for the football season, with the commitment being as few as one article per week.

There is also the opportunity to take on a greater deal of work, with the possibility of leading to a more permanent paid position in the future.

An interest in sports reporting & football is a must – with all levels of experience considered.

Expressions of interest should be forwarded to the Western Region Football League’s Media & Communications Officer, Cam Nation, via email (c.nation@wrfl.asn.au). Applications should be accompanied by a short 300 word match report from any recent game (AFL, VFL, local football etc).

This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in pursuing a career in sports journalism.

All enquiries via email only.
