Journalism ethics lectures today

In keeping with our “open class” policy for guest lectures in La Trobe’s journalism, media, and cinema studies subjects, all students and staff are invited to attend two lectures being held today focusing on journalism ethics.

One of them used to edit The Age; the other works there now as a film reviewer. And if that doesn’t sound like too much of a coincidence, well get this: both Michael Gawenda and Jake Wilson will be visiting La Trobe tomorrow.

This afternoon at 4 Waleed Aly will be the guest lecturer in Dilemmas in Journalism, where he’ll lead a discussion on how journalists can avoid resorting to stereotyping the people or groups that they write about. All staff and students are most welcome.

Our second guest lecturer in Dilemmas in Journalism is Waleed Aly, who lectures at the Global Terrorism Research Centre at Monash University and is a presenter and commentator for an array of ABC radio and TV programs. He also plays in a band, writes books, and, tragically, barracks for Richmond.
