Behind the magazine: upstart’s sports editor

As part of an ongoing series, Katharina Hackler chats to upstart's sports editor, Ben Waterworth, about his ever-expanding portfolio of written contributions to upstart, and about chasing a kindergarten dream of becoming an AFL commentator.

Ben Waterworth, a final year Bachelor of Journalism student at La Trobe University, has been involved with upstart for the past 18 months. During that time he has contributed more than 95 articles to the magazine and writes a weekly column entitled From the grandstand. Recently, Ben also scored a job as a weekly columnist at the website The Roar, where he writes opinion pieces on issues surrounding the AFL .

Katharina Hackler talks to Ben about his passion for sports, his weekly column for upstart, and his role as upstart’s sports editor.

Katharina Hackler is an international student from Germany, studying her Master of Global Communications at La Trobe University. She is part of upstart’s editorial team and her biggest passion is radio.
