Applications open for the ‘James Fallows Essay Prize’

The American Review is offering a $1000 cash prize to the winner of its 'James Fallows Essay Prize' open to entry for Australian university students.

Entries are now open for the American Review’s ‘James Fallows Essay Prize‘, an essay writing competition, available to Australian university students, which features a $1000 cash prize.

Named in honour of distinguished journalist, author and media commentator James Fallows, the competition is open to any student enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at an Australian university.

Entrants are encouraged to submit a 1200 to 1500 word essay on the following topic:

Digital media, partisan journalism, and the relentless 24/7 media and internet environment have been reshaping journalism around the world, and the United States is at the forefront of these changes. With the rise of digital technologies and the collapse of old media models, what does the future hold for journalism, and will it mark an improvement?

The winner of the competition will have their piece published in the November edition of the magazine, as well as the cash prize. They’ll also gain free entry to the Public Knowledge Forum, due to be held at the Sydney Opera House in early November.

The competition closes at 9am AEST on the 23rd of September, 2013. Full details, including instructions on how to enter, are available at americanreviewmag.com/essay.
