Successful applicants will introduce creativity and journalistic knowledge into a project of their choice, which could involve new investigative techniques, reporting methods or innovative technologies to present data.
When developing specific story pitches, applicants must ask themselves: “How will the world be consuming news in the next 5, 10 or 20 years?”
Finalists will be selected by a panel from the three organisations and will have the opportunity to further advance their projects in a newsroom setting.
They will be able to spend three days a week at the VICE News office and two days a week at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism for up to three months. This includes full access to reporters and students to support the progress and distribution of their work.
The chosen journalists will receive a share of the $500,000 fund to bring their idea to life.
The deadline for the first round of applications is 1 June 2015.
