The internship runs for a period of two days per week (negotiable) for a period up to three months. The role is unsalaried, however interns will be paid $15.00 per day to cover lunch and travel expenses.
Applications to the intern program are open only to students, or recent graduates, of The Conversation’s partner and member organisations. These are: CSIRO, University of Melbourne, Monash University, RMIT University, University of Technology Sydney, University of Western Australia, Charles Darwin University, Deakin University, Flinder’s University, Griffith University, Latrobe University, Murdoch University, Queensland University of Technology, Swinburne University, University of South Australia, University of Canberra, University of Tasmania, University of Western Sydney and Victoria University.
Internships are located at The Conversation’s newsroom in Melbourne.
Responsibilities include a wide range of newsroom activities such as pitching ideas and developing news leads, commissioning articles, editing articles, contributing to social media, writing research briefs, picture research, writing headlines, sub-editing and other editorial tasks as required. Applicants will need to demonstrate a keen interest in the media and public affairs, especially online media and excellent writing and editing skills.
