‘Mushroom murderer’ Erin Patterson’s lawyer announced her intentions to appeal the guilty verdicts after being sentenced to 33 years behind bars for the murder of three of her relatives.

Patterson’s new lawyer Richard Edney made the announcement at the Supreme Court of Victoria on Thursday.

“There will be an appeal against conviction,” he said.

Patterson did not attend the hearing.

Edney also applied for an extension for the appeal, originally set to expire on Monday at 11:59pm.

The extension was granted by Justice Christopher Beale with the court’s new rules where appeal extensions are automatically granted if only an additional 28 days are requested, and the notice of appeal is filed within 56 days.

“Given the length of this trial, the applicant wants to take advantage of that extension time,” he said.

Patterson’s legal team has until 3 November to make the appeal. A formal notice of appeal has not yet been submitted.
