Free forum at Multicultural Arts Hub

How can technology help in the resettlement of young refugees? Does communication with their homeland make a difference? The Cultural Development Network and the City of Melbourne hope to address these issues at a public forum this week.

The Cultural Development Network and the City of Melbourne are presenting their first public forum for 2011.

The forum, entitled Home… Lands? seeks to address issues arising from young people’s use of technology in construction of identity and home in a new country.

The organisers are hoping to attract artists and arts-workers; and local government, community, health, welfare and cultural development workers who engage with young people and refugee communities, particularly with resettlement issues. The session will provide opportunities for information sharing and networking with colleagues, including a post-event afternoon tea.

Speaking at the forum are Professor Sandy Gifford and Doctor Raelene Wilding from the La Trobe University Refugee Research Centre; artist Dave Nguyen; digital artist and documentary maker Jen Hughes; and Shakthi Sivanathan from Sydney’s CuriousWorks.

Admission is free, but for catering purposes you will need to RSVP at www.trybooking.com/LDN.

Home… Lands? will take place on Wednesday 23 March, 2.00-5.00pm at Blue Room, Multicultural Arts Hub, 506 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne.
