Internship opportunity at The Conversation

The Conversation is an independent source of analysis, commentary and news from the university and research sector — written by acknowledged experts and delivered directly to the public. With 1.3 million unique visits a month, they are one of Australia’s largest independent news & commentary sites.

The editorial internship program gives talented interns the opportunity to gain practical experience and actively contribute to The Conversation’s newsroom.

Interns are assigned to an editorial section for the duration of their internship. Interns work closely with their section editors and are exposed to, and actively participate in, a range of editorial activities: generating ideas, commissioning articles, editing, sub-editing, picture research, writing research briefs, social media and other editorial tasks.

Intern responsibilities would include:

Pitching ideas and developing news leads
Commissioning articles
Editing articles
Contributing to social media
Writing research briefs
Picture research
Writing headlines
Sub-editing
Contributing to social media
Liaising with authors and other stakeholders

Applications accepted on a rolling basis from 4 October and close 18 October, 5pm.
Interviews will be held from 24 October – 1 November.
Successful applicants are required to attend a compulsory induction on Thursday 7 November.
Successful applicants would commence their placement week commencing 11 November (negotiable).
