The weekend's sport headlines include record breaking Gout Gout & Collingwood's huge win.

From record-breaking performances to gut-wrenching defeats, athletes across the globe delivered moments to remember. This week had it all.

Gout breaks 57-year-old Australian 200 metre record

Seventeen-year-old Queensland sprinter Gout Gout has once again dazzled on the track, becoming the first Australian ever to run an all conditions 200m race in less than 20 seconds. He becomes just the seventh under-20 athlete to break the mark in history.

“I came off the bend and I just kept sending it. I felt the wind behind me, so I was like, ‘let me just use it’,” he told Nine News.

The reigning U18 Oceania Athletics champion will compete next month at the highly anticipated 143rd Stawell Gift.

Min Woo Lee has an all-time meltdown at PGA Players Championship

Aussie golfing superstar Min Woo Lee headed into the third round of the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in the lead. Following his +6 round, he headed back to the same clubhouse seven shots behind new leader, USA’s J.J Spaun.

Two double bogeys on “moving day” bumped the Perth star way down the pecking order, as Lee had his sole birdie of the round on the 18th hole, a 30-foot putt from off the green.

Pies crush Power, just one of four massive margins in AFL’s Round 1

Port Adelaide came into Round 1 with premiership aspirations but left the MCG with a whopping 91-point headache at the hands of the Collingwood Football Club.

Although the Pies would boast the biggest winning margin of the round, Geelong, Adelaide and the Gold Coast Suns gave them a run for their money with 78-point, 63-point and 87-point wins respectively.

Calls have already come for Port Adelaide coach, Ken Hinkley, to step aside now rather than at seasons end with Josh Carr’s succession plan in waiting.

“The long goodbye doesn’t work. We’ve seen it before, and we’ve seen it fail before,” David King told Fox Footy on Sunday night.

Andreeva dominates in Indian Wells final

Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva overcame a disastrous first set to win the BNP Paribas Open knocking off world No. 1, Aryna Sabalenka.

Andreeva became the youngest winner at Indian Wells since Serena Williams in 1999 at just 17-years-of-age. It was her 12th straight win after also winning last month’s Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.

It was heartbreak again for Sabalenka, the runner up in the 2023 final, who took it in her stride.

“I have a love-hate relationship with this place,” Sabalenka joked.

“I’ll just put this trophy on top of another one and pretend it’s the trophy for winning.”

Newcastle United wins their first trophy in 70 years

Newcastle United showed an inspired performance against Premier League rivals, Liverpool, to win the Carabao Cup in front of 88,513 attendees at Wembley Stadium.

Dan Burn put the Magpies in the lead with a signature header from a corner at the end of the first half. Swedish forward Alexander Isak put Newcastle in complete control with a goal of his own at the start of the second half.

Liverpool retained 66 percent possession but were only able to get six attempts on target.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot said it was a disappointing result.

“They deserved to win. We were outplayed in their style,” he said.

Oscar Piastri falters late in Melbourne Grand Prix

Australian Formula 1 star Oscar Piastri suffered heartbreak late in his home grand prix, spinning out at a wet Albert Park.

With a podium finish in his sights, the Aussie skidded off track and was left stuck in the grass. Eventually finding his way back to the pits, Piastri was able to navigate a ninth place finish.

“I’ve only got myself to blame,” Piastri told media.

“I tried to push too much in those conditions. But the other 56 and three-quarter laps were very strong.”
