Seminar on upstart’s social media strategy

Building a brand with social media: Lawrie Zion tells the story of upstart magazine at La Trobe University this afternoon at 3:30.

We hear a lot of different things about the impact of Twitter and Facebook, but just what is their role within the rapidly evolving media landscape?

In this presentation, Dr Lawrie Zion, the co-founder of upstart, speaks from personal experience about building audiences through social media, and considers some of the opportunities and dilemmas facing mainstream media organisations in the era of social networking.

The presentation, held by the La Trobe University School of Management, will focus on the social media strategy of upstart.

Dr Zion is the editor-in-chief of upstart,  a senior lecturer in Journalism at La Trobe University, and the coordinator of the Master of Global Communications degree. He wrote and co-produced the award-winning 2007 documentary about the Australian accent, The Sounds of Aus, and has worked for The Australian, The Age, The Hollywood Reporter and the ABC.
