The Grownup – Gillian Flynn.

Don’t have a lot of time to read this weekend? Well this book’s for you. Consisting of only 64 pages, this New York Times best-seller is a gripping quick read.

Gillian Flynn who also wrote the thriller, Gone Girl, is at it again with a classic ghost story based of George R.R. Martin’s rogue anthology, “What do you do?”

The short story follows a young woman who struggles to survive on mostly harmless fraud. But it’s the ending of the book that will leave you shocked beyond words.

Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams.

Looking for something a bit longer to read this weekend?

Meet Queenie Jackson (the protagonist). A 25 year old Jamaican woman and journalist living in Britain, who struggles to fit in.

This awarding winning book by Candice Carty-Williams addresses a range of issues such as racism, feminism, black lives matter, workplace inequality and mental health.

It is a timely work of art that offers a rare insight into black womanhood and the struggles they face as margins.
