The Sex Party becomes the Reason Party

The Sex Party will be changing their name to the Reason Party, in order to appeal to a broader base of voters.

“We’re creating a political party to take common sense and reason nationwide,” Sex Party founder Fiona Patten told Nine News.

“The name of the party was an obstacle amongst business and medical communities, which was a large part of the decision to change.”

The Sex Party was founded by Ms Patten and her partner Robbie Swan in 2009, and have gained a large following with a total of 7500 members and 50,000 likes on Facebook.

Ms Patten said that the Reason Party will still continue to campaign for the legislation of illicit drugs and euthanasia laws.

“We are closing the Sex Party and are starting a new organisation. This is not about rebadging. It is about a new movement. It is not Left or Right, it is running on what is pragmatic.”

While Patten is confident the party will receive strong support nationwide, there are doubts on whether the members of the party would reject the conservative name.

“We did not make the decision lightly but it is the right time. People have said it is risky because it is so sensible,” she told the Herald Sun.
