US President Donald Trump is threatening to add secondary tariffs on Russian oil after Putin criticised the credibility of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Trump has said during an NBC interview that he is “very angry” and “pissed off” and would increase tariffs by up to 50 percent if Russia does not take the next step towards a ceasefire.
“If Russia and I are unable to make a deal on stopping the bloodshed in Ukraine, and if I think it was Russia’s fault … I am going to put secondary tariffs on oil, on all oil coming out of Russia,” he said.
This is after Putin called for a temporary UN run government to be placed in Ukraine until a peace deal has been made.
When Trump first went into office in January, he had developed a better relationship with Putin than the last administration. This left many of the Western allies on edge, when negotiations between America and Russia started taking place to end the war in Ukraine.
