Two teenagers have died and three people have been hospitalised after a motorcycle crash in Melbourne’s west overnight.
The crash occurred at a Grangefields property on Betty’s Road at about 6.35pm on Sunday. Two off road motorbikes and a quad bike were involved.
Victorian Police say that an 18-year-old woman from Altona died at the scene, while a 17-year-old boy from Hoppers Crossing was taken to hospital before passing away later that night.
Two children, a six-year-old and an 11-year-old, suffered serious injuries while a 43-year-old man from Altona suffered non-life-threatening injuries. All three were taken to hospital.
Investigators are yet to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the collision.
In an interview with the ABC, Detective Sergeant Richard Wood from Victoria Police reminded road users that a lesson can be learnt from the tragedy.
“The message is that motorcycles are not toys, they can be lethal weapons,” he said.
“It’s two lives tragically lost needlessly and added to our road toll this year.”
