Behind the magazine: upstart’s editorial team

This year, upstart’s team has grown quite rapidly, bringing ten new students to the editorial seat. All bring very different experiences and contribute unique stories to the magazine. Katharina Hackler chats to the deputy editor Natalie Savino about blogs, travel, and hippos.

Are you wondering who you’re pitching stories to here at upstart?  What kind of people are they and what are their passions?

Over the next few weeks, upstart’s Katharina Hackler will turn the attention back on her fellow team members, talking to each of them about their current studies, their journalistic experiences and, of course, their work for upstart.

First to be profiled is Natalie Savino, a Journalism Honours student at La Trobe University. She is particularly interested in travel and wants to pursue a career in travel writing. Recently, Natalie landed her first journalism job at a local newspaper, the Whittlesea Review.

Katharina talks to Natalie about her passion for travel and her weekly column for upstart, getout.

Katharina Hackler is an international student from Germany, studying her Master of Global Communications at La Trobe University. She is part of upstart’s editorial team and her biggest passion is radio.
