14-year-old Indian batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi has become the youngest player in history to score a senior T20 century.
Suryavanshi’s innings featured seven fours and 11 sixes as he notched his century after just 35 deliveries, the second-fastest hundred in IPL history.
Batting second, his team the Rajasthan Royals were set a total of 210 to chase. Alongside Indian international player Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryavanshi and his team led their side to an eight-wicket victory with 28 balls to spare.
After the match, Jaiswal described his teammate’s innings as “incredible”.
“[It was] one of the best innings I have seen,” he said.
“He batted really well and I hope he [keeps] doing this stuff for us for a long time.”
“He has the game, he has the temperament and the mentality so I wish him all the luck and he should do well.”
The 14-year-old was eventually dismissed for 101 off 38 balls.
The previous record was set in an Indian domestic match by Vijay Zol in 2013, who was 18 years and 118 days old.
Suryavanshi was drafted to the Royals at the age of 13 for a price of roughly $200,000 AUD during the IPL auction in November. He had also previously set the record for the fastest youth cricket century against Australia at the age of 13 years and 187 days.
