More than 30 firefighters responded to a tobacco store fire in Fawkner this morning. Police are currently investigating the fire and it is being treated as suspicious.
There were multiple triple zero calls just before 2:30am about the retail store in Bonwick Street. Fire Rescue Victoria said crews arrived to the scene in a few minutes. When the crews arrived, the store was already fully alight and it took more than 30 minutes for firefighters to control the fire.
The shop was damaged significantly and some neighbouring stores have been damaged due to the smoke from the fire. A community advice message was also issued due to the smoke.
No one was injured and fire firefighters will remain at the scene this morning to ensure that the fire is fully out and doesn’t light up again.
There have been more than 100 fires linked to Victoria’s illegal tobacco turf war.
