Geelong coach Chris Scott has denied any speculation about why Jake Kolodjashnij will be unavailable this week in the AFL and VFL amid the club’s ongoing contract saga.

Scott said he “could not speculate” as to whether the defender will play for Geelong again, and that the player’s group has been positive despite the situation being “difficult to compartmentalise.”

The AFL has hired an independent lawyer to review the circumstances of the contract and the waiver, which was neither viewed by the AFL or the AFL Players Association.

The league had issued a “please explain” to Geelong over the contract agreement, which had given them until Tuesday night to respond.

Last Thursday, News Corp AFL reporter Jay Clark revealed that the Cats had made a secret contract with a player to waiver the club’s legal responsibility for any head knocks or concussions.

Kolodjashnij identified himself as the player involved in the contract.

A club statement followed last night which stated that the defender will be unavailable for selection at AFL or VFL level this weekend.

“The care and wellbeing of Jake remains the club’s priority, and they will continue to support him and his family through this period,” it said.

The waiver has since been removed from the contract.
