Andrew Jaspan has had a long career as a journalist, during which he has edited the Scotsman, The Observer, and the Sunday Herald in the UK, before coming to Australia and taking on The Age in 2004.

Jaspan is now the founding editor of The Conversation, a website that offers analysis and commentary from universities and the research sector.

He talks to upstart co-editor Matt Smith about his start in journalism, how the media landscape is changing online, and the differences in media between the UK and Australia.
