Liberal National Party senator Hollie Hughes has expressed concern over one of the party’s leadership contenders, Shadow Treasurer Angus Taylor.
Following Labor’s historic win and Peter Dutton losing his seat in the Dickson electorate, the Liberal Party has begun discussions over the vacant leadership position. Likely contenders include Shadow Treasurer Angus Taylor, Deputy Party Leader Sussan Ley, Shadow Defence Minister Andrew Hastie, and Shadow Immigration Minister Dan Tehan.
Senator Hughes has said that she won’t be supporting MP Angus Taylor should he want the position.
“I have concerns about his capability. I feel we have zero economic policy to sell,” Senator Hughes told ABC Radio National.
“I don’t know what he’s been doing for three years. There was no tax policy, there was no economic narrative.”
Senator Hughes is set to leave politics in June.
