In a stunning turn of events, NRL superstar Daly Cherry-Evans has announced that he won’t be playing for the Manly Sea Eagles in 2026.
Cherry-Evans, speaking on Nine’s 100% Footy, described the events surrounding his contract situation as “bizarre”.
Despite the initial reports of Manly not offering an extension for the star half-back, club-chairman Scott Penn confirmed that the club had offered a two-year extension, but only after they had heard Cherry-Evans was leaving the club.
Cherry-Evans revealed his decision on the 100% Footy panel on Monday night.
“Talking with my family, we’re ok with the decision, we’re at peace with it,” he said.
Cherry-Evans indicated his desire to play on in 2026 but will be focusing fully on the 2025 season with Manly before making that decision.
“I’m not looking to engage in any chats anytime soon. I’m hoping by coming out and saying this, everyone can understand the full focus is on Manly and charging towards the finals this year.”
The 36-year-old has played for Manly since 2011, winning a premiership in his first season. He has also represented Queensland in State of Origin 18 times.
