Matlidas defeat Kenya to win FIFA World Series

Sam Kerr and Clare Wheeler scored for Australia, leading the Matildas to 2-0 win.

The Matildas have secured the FIFA Series 2026 title after defeating Kenya in Nairobi early this morning.

Kerr scored her 75th international goal in the 25th minute. The initial shot was denied by a one-on-one save but her strike slid underneath the keeper and flew right to the back of the net.

Celebrating was cut short after Australia’s third goal by Caitlin Foord in the 61st minute when the referees ruled the ball had entered through the side netting. Foord was given a yellow card for her continued disputes.

Kenya reinforced themselves as worthy opponents when they came close to balancing the score in the first half. The first shot was saved by goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold, while the other was fired straight at the post, leaving Kenya off the board.

Alanna Kennedy was made captain for the match and became the fifth Matilda to collect 150 caps. She has joined teammates Emily van Egmond, Cheryl Salisbury, Clare Polkinghorne and Lisa De Vanna in this prestigious club.

There are no upcoming games for the Matildas, as the team have earned themselves a break after this week’s victory.
