Mavericks win NBA Draft Lottery

The Dallas Mavericks now have the opportunity to draft the projected top pick, Cooper Flagg.

The Dallas Mavericks have obtained the first overall pick in the 2025 draft by winning the NBA Draft Lottery.

18-year-old Duke freshman Cooper Flagg is the player projected to be the number one pick in the draft. A scouting report by Kevin O’Connor labelled him as “the best offensive and defensive prospect in this draft class”.

The team had a 1.8 percent chance of winning, the fourth lowest the odds have ever been. The Utah Jazz, Washington Wizards, and Charlotte Hornets had the best odds of winning at 14 percent.

Former Maverick Rolando Blackman reacted to the win on ESPN.

“It’s been a rough year as you all know, but the important part of the whole thing is that we’ll get a chance to move our franchise forward,” he said.

When asked what Flagg means to him, Blackman said “he can hoop, he can play”.

“Being able to make our team better is exactly what we want to do,” he said.

This comes after the Mavericks traded franchise player Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers in February this year.

The 2025 NBA draft will be held on 25 and 26 June.
