Melbourne CBD’s newest train station in over four decades has been completed. This is one of five stations to be completed in the Allan Labor Government’s $15 billion Metro Tunnel Project.
Eight years in the making, Town Hall Station is located under Swanston Street between Collins and Flinders Street making landmarks like the Arts Centre, St Paul’s Cathedral and Federation Square more accessible.
Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan said the Metro Tunnel will “cut congestion and get you to get to work, uni and home sooner”.
“We invested in public transport and just look at the results,” she said.
The station features a grand entrance hall, arched ceilings, and a trinocular design of three overlapping tunnels. It will be accessible from City Square, Federation Square and the Town Hall development.
Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Gabrielle Williams says that the new station is “completely transforming the way Melbourne moves”.
“We’re another step closer to opening the Metro Tunnel later this year.”
