Opposition announces changes to election policies

The Coalition has announced changes to their work from home and public sector job cut policies.

The Coalition has announced changes to their election policies in response to backlash from the public.

Their policy to crack down on public servants working from home will be scrapped. This policy would have reduced work from home arrangements, requiring federal public servants return to the office.

“We made a mistake in relation to the policy. We apologise for that,” Dutton told The Today Show this morning.

New clarifications have also been made on their policy to cut the 41,000 public sector jobs introduced under Labor.

Dutton told The Today Show that natural attrition and a hiring freeze on the new Commonwealth jobs was always the plan.

This comes after confusion that arose from the opposition’s March 27 budget reply speech, where Dutton appeared to confirm the Coalition’s policy to cut the jobs, without further detail.

“We will reverse Labor’s increase of 41,000 Canberra-based public servants – saving $7 billion a year,” Dutton said in his budget speech.
