Queen Elizabeth II visits Melbourne

The Queen stopped over in Melbourne for what was a brief visit during what is probably her last Australia tour. Michael Nolan was there.

Queen Elizabeth II was greeted by thousands of people in Melbourne on Wednesday, during her four-hour visit to the world’s most liveable city.

Accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Phillp, she was in town to open the new Royal Children’s Hospital, after opening the first one in 1963.

After viewing an exhibition of indigenous art at the Ian Potter Gallery, she caught a Z3-Class tram to a reception and lunch with local politicians at Government House.
