Queensland Government set to announce Olympic venue plans

The venue plans are set to take place at Victoria Park after backlash from locals.

Queensland Premier David Crisafulli will today reveal official venue plans for the 2032 Olympic Games amid a mixed response to the State Government’s Victoria Park plan.

The Olympic events have been confirmed to take place at Victoria Park, but some locals have been vocal against this plan. Save Victoria Park Advocacy Group have argued for the environmental impact the event would have on the location.

Spokesperson Rose O’Hagan has said the group must “make sure that we hold our premier and deputy premier to their word when they have given us their election promise that there will be no stadium at Victoria Park.”

Today’s announcement is aligned with a review conducted by the Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority, which discusses the plans for the Games. The Authority states its main goal is to ensure every project in 2032 “brings long lasting and positive impacts for Queensland for generations to come.”

Crisafulli will release the review findings and give the government’s reaction at the same time.

Brisbane was announced as the host city of the Olympic Games in July 2021.
