Six mobile COVID-19 testing sites opened today

More testing clinics are set to open over the week to increase their reach

Six new mobile coronavirus testing sites will be opened today across Melbourne where they will begin conducting tests this morning. They will be located at Bunnings at West Footscray, Pacific Werribee, Pacific Epping, Watergardens Town Centre, Westfield Fountain Gate and Bayside Shopping Centre in Frankston.

Four of these testing sites were opened yesterday at Chadstone, Doncaster, Highpoint and Northland shopping centres.

This brings the total sites to 10 which are set to test thousands of people to reach the testing blitz target of 100,000.

More testing clinics will be opened during the week to reach more regional and rural areas including the Gippsland and Northern Loddon areas.

The testing blitz target of 100,000 was explained by Premier of Victoria Daniel Andrews as giving more options to lifting the lockdown restrictions.

“We’ve asked a lot of Victorians, but the plan we put in place to slow the spread of this virus is working. And if we keep working together and keep doing the right thing, we will get to the other side of this crisis,” he said in a media release.

As of today, there have been over 3,150,00 confirmed cases of COVID-19 worldwide and 6,752 total confirmed cases in Australia. The virus has resulted in 91 deaths in Australia with 18 of those deaths being in Victoria.
