One Nation has gained ground in the latest Newspoll as Labor records its worst result since the 2022 election.

But the poll conducted early last week found several other key shifts. Here are three key takeaways:

Right leaning parties buck the trend

Labor’s primary vote dropped three points to 30 percent, while their left-leaning counterparts, the Greens, also saw a drop in support, with a one-point decrease to 12 percent.

One Nation and the LNP were the beneficiaries as Pauline Hanson’s party recorded a one-point gain to 30 percent, and the Coalition bounced back by two points to 19 percent after a record low in the previous Newspoll.

Hanson the only leader not underwater

Hanson’s personal approval rating has also rebounded, with voter satisfaction split down the middle. A three-point improvement sees 47 percent of Australians both approving and disapproving of her performance, while six percent remain undecided.

In contrast, both the Prime Minister and Opposition Leader have lost ground. A one-point drop has left Anthony Albanese with a net approval of -18 percent and Angus Taylor even further behind at -21 percent.

Albo remains the people’s choice for PM

Despite a decrease in his personal approval, Anthony Albanese remains the clear choice for preferred Prime Minister. In a three-way contest, Albanese leads with 46 percent, followed by Pauline Hanson at 32 percent and Angus Taylor at 22 percent.

When asked to choose between the top two, the Prime Minister held a 57-43 percent lead over Senator Hanson. However, head-to-head polling shows that Hanson has strengthened her position as the alternative prime minister, leaving Angus Taylor chasing the pack.
