Trump says Murdochs might be involved in the US TikTok deal

Progress has been made to finalise the deal over TikTok, Trump says.

US President Donald Trump named people who are likely to be involved in the US TikTok deal, Lachlan Murdoch is one of them.

In his interview aired on Murdoch-owned Fox News this Sunday, local time, Trump said there’s a group of media moguls who are involved in the discussion of the deal over TikTok.

“I hate to tell you this – a man named Lachlan is involved,” he said. “You know who Lachlan is? That’s a very unusual name Lachlan Murdoch.”

Co-founder of Oracle, Larry Ellison, and the CEO of Dell Technologies, Michael Dell, also might be in the TikTok deal group.

“Rupert [Murdoch] is probably gonna be in the group, I think they’re gonna be in the group, a couple of others,” Trump said. “Really great people. Very prominent people. And they’re also American patriots, they love this country, so I think they’re gonna do a really good job.”

On Saturday, White House Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt told Fox News that the TikTok board is expected to have seven members, and six of them will be American.

“This deal does put America first,” she said. “And let me just be very clear. This deal means that TikTok will be majority-owned by Americans in the United States.”

On Friday, after a call to Chinese President Xi Jinping, Trump said that the deal is close to completion.

In April 2024, Congress passed the law banning TikTok, owned by ByteDance based in China, unless 80 percent of it will be owned by American companies. After becoming president, Trump extended the deadline for the company to be sold. In the interview on Sunday, he thanked TikTok for helping him win the last elections.
