Ukrainian woman arrested over alleged air strike plot

The woman could face up to 12 years in prison.

A woman has been arrested in Ukraine for allegedly gathering information on Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy which authorities claim could have been used for a “massive” air strike.

The woman, from the Mykolaiv region, is accused of using local connections to find out President Zelenskyy’s itinerary when he visited last month.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) said that the woman also drove to areas of the region to take “photos or video footage of Ukrainian facilities”.

Ukrainian officials arrested her when she attempted to pass the information on to Russian authorities.

“Occupiers planned to use [this] data to prepare a new massive air strike on the region,” the SSU said.

The SSU said that the woman had been instructed to find the location of the Armed Forces Ukraine (AFU) electronic warfare systems and ammunition depots near Ochakiv, in the Mykolaiv oblast.

If convicted, the woman could face up to 12 years in prison.
