Kayo found to have violated gambling advertising rules

Kayo has been issued a formal warning.

Online streaming service Kayo has been found to be in breach of gambling advertisement rules in place to protect children.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) said Kayo breached the rules in a Fremantle v Collingwood AFL match last year.

According to ACMA, gambling adverts may not be shown during live sporting events between 5am and 8.30pm, including the five minutes before and after the event.

The investigation found that Kayo had streamed gambling promotions within five minutes before the game started and during the scheduled break.

ACMA Chair, Nerida O’Loughlin, said that streaming platforms are expected to follow the same rules as traditional TV broadcasters for live sporting events.

“Gambling advertising during live sport is a major concern for Australians. Families want to watch live sports without needing to worry that children may come to think of gambling as a part of the game,” she said.

ACMA has issued a formal warning to Kayo about this breach of gambling advertising rules.
