Construction has begun for new aged care facility at Kingston Centre

The project is on track to be completed by 2025.

Major works have begun after the Labor Government announced the construction of a public residential age care facility at Kingston Centre.

The Labor Government says the new aged care Kingston Centre will feature “safer and friendly” facilities for older Victorians with mental health and complex care needs.

The $134.6 million project is on track for completion by 2025 and expected to generate more than 400 jobs during construction.

The multi-storey facility will be designed with 150 rooms grouped into small households that will feature a separate kitchen, dining areas and include a private ensuite in each resident’s bathroom.

A community room, sacred space, and other common areas such as terraces and gardens will also be built into the aged care centre.

“We’re ensuring residents receive the best care in a home-like environment – with private bedrooms and bathrooms and green space,” Minister for Health Infrastructure, Mary-Anne Thomas said.

The centre will also replace the air in the building with its ‘pandemic mode’ ventilation and air-conditioning system. This will help to contain the spread of infectious diseases.

The Labor Government said that the new facility will be built onsite at the existing Kingston Centre to allow residents easy access to a broad range of healthcare services. The Kingston Centre will replace the former AG Eastwood residential age care facility.

State Member for Clarinda, Meng Heang Tak said the new works will provide “bigger, better and brighter facilities that support their independence and dignity”.
