Liberal senator Derryn Hinch has been released from hospital after falling out of an Uber on Monday night.
The 74-year-old surfaced for the first time today outside his South Melbourne home after being discharged from The Alfred hospital, suffering from “slight brain trauma.”
In the incident, Senator Hinch had allegedly fallen from the vehicle after returning from a dinner at a friend’s house.
Hinch, who had a liver transplant in 2011, was quick to tell reporters on Thursday that he had not been drinking to excess when the fall took place.
“I’d had two glasses of wine with my dinner guest that night at their house and I came home and it all happened outside my house. I drink occasionally and I’m not stupid.”
He then went on to add, “I didn’t have a drink for five years, I swore I would never drink again but you’ve got to live your life.”
Senator Hinch is due to return to hospital next week to be fitted with a heart monitor, but reaffirmed he was feeling “fine”.
