A man has escaped from prison near Mount Barker in Western Australia on Sunday.

Joel Back, 42, is on the run after fleeing from the minimum-security Pardelup Prison Farm.

Police have advised members of the public to stay away from the escapee.

“Any member of the public who sights Joel is advised not to approach, but to call police immediately on 131 444,” WA Police said.

Back is described to be 175cm tall with dark hair, a scar on his forehead and tattoo on his left arm.

“He was last seen wearing green clothing,” WA Police said.

Anyone with information has been advised to contact police.

Pardelup Prison Farm is a minimum-security male only prison. The prison is 2,600 hectares in size and maintains livestock to feed the 84 prisoners.

Located 27 kilometres away from Mount Barker, the prison aims to provide education and training to prisoners to reintegrate them back into society.
