Essendon fires head coach after sitting at the bottom of the AFL ladder

Scott has been with the club for 80 games securing 29 wins, 50 losses and one draw.

Essendon has fired their head coach Brad Scott after winning only one of their last 24 AFL matches, including a loss to Richmond last weekend.

Assistant coach Dean Solomon is expected to take over as interim head coach.

Bombers president Andrew Welsh described Scott as a “resilient, stoic leader” and thanked him for his time in Essendon.

“Ultimately, whilst we know we are a young team, we are not comfortable with our current position which led us to meet as a board to assess and make a decision on the future of the senior coach position,” he said.

“We have been extremely clear on the strategy and direction of our football club. We are building the next successful era for Essendon, with a view to playing finals, winning finals and competing for premierships.”

The club will outline its process to select the next senior coach in the coming days.
