Fake AI image appears to show explosion near Pentagon

The image has over six thousand views.

A fake image produced by the AI spread across social media yesterday, showing an explosion close to the Pentagon complex.

The image, which shows a sizeable black cloud of smoke had spread on Twitter, but the original source remains unclear.

In a tweet, the Arlington County Fire Department said both they and the Pentagon Force Protection Agency, are aware of the fake social media report circulating online.

“There is NO explosion or incident taking place at or near the Pentagon reservation, and there is no immediate danger or hazards to the public,” the tweet said.

The fake image currently has 610.8 thousand views and a total of 562 retweets, with multiple verified accounts contributing towards these figures.

This incident highlights growing concerns over misinformation generated by AI.
