Geelong school bus crash leaves one student dead, several injured

Advanced life support ambulance units were still at the scene as of 12 pm.

A school bus crash in Geelong has left one student dead and several other students seriously injured.

The bus rolled over at around 8:20 on Wednesday morning in Stonehaven, a rural town near Geelong.

According to SBS News, a Victoria Police spokesperson has said, “It’s understood several people have been seriously injured.”

The Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles, who is from Geelong, confirmed reports of a death on X.

“My heart breaks hearing the devastating news of a school bus incident and death of a student in my hometown of Geelong,” he wrote.

Ambulance Victoria has said that eight paramedic units were on the scene, which included a helicopter aid, intensive care and life support facilities.

The ABC has reported that five children have been sent to the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne and another five to University Hospital Geelong.

It is not known yet how many people were travelling on the school bus, which was travelling to Christian College Geelong.

The Department of Transport and Planning has informed drivers that the Hamilton Highway has been closed and they should use the Geelong Ring Road, Princes Highway and Inverleigh-Winchelsea Road routes instead.
