Man arrested following stabbing outside Sydney gym

A 45-year-old man presented himself to Dee Why Police Station where he was arrested for the stabbing of a 39-year-old woman.

A man has been arrested following an incident yesterday where a women was stabbed outside of a Sydney gym.

The 39-year-old woman was rushed to hospital in a serious but stable condition after being stabbed multiple times in the upper body, outside of Crunch Fitness in Alexandria. The man charged is believed to be a former partner to the victim.

“About 7.50am today (Thursday 9 May 2024) a 45-year-old man presented to Dee Why Police Station where he was subsequently arrested and taken to Manly Police Station,” NSW Police said in a statement.

Detective Superintendent Rodney Hart said the man was known to police for domestic violence related offences. He carried out the attack with a kitchen-style knife and stabbed the victim multiple times.

“This was a targeted attack,” Hart said.

The incident comes after a series of recent stabbings in Sydney and calls for tougher action on domestic violence in Australia.
