Oscar Piastri has coasted to a dominant win at the 2025 Dutch Formula One Grand Prix as his teammate and championship rival Lando Norris went up in smoke.
McLaren driver Piastri remained in the lead from start to finish despite encountering three safety cars, brought out by both Ferraris and Norris.
A suspected oil leak caused Britain’s Norris to retire from second place with just seven laps to go.
Norris’s retirement meant Piastri’s championship lead got extended to 34 points over his teammate.
“It feels good, obviously,” Piastri said post-race.
“I controlled the race when I needed to, and obviously, it was incredibly unfortunate for Lando at the end.”
The British driver’s retirement also saw Visa Cash App Racing Bulls driver Isack Hadjar move up from fourth to claim his first F1 podium.
“It feels a bit unreal,” Hadjar said.
“What was most surprising to me is keeping that fourth place for the whole race.”
Home favourite Max Verstappen was unable to close the gap to the fast-paced McLarens, having to settle for second place.
For Ferrari, it was trouble at the beach, Lewis Hamilton brought out the first safety car on lap 23 after colliding with the wall. Contact between Charles Leclerc and Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli on lap 53 saw the safety car brought out for the second time.
Antonelli received a 10-second time penalty for the collision, dropping him from sixth to sixteenth.
Piastri has now equalled his manager and former Australian great, Mark Webber, with nine F1 wins.
