Matildas captain Sam Kerr has pled not guilty to a charge of harassing a police officer in London last year, an act which was allegedly racially aggravated.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said the charge related to an incident involving an officer who was responding to a dispute about a taxi fare on January 30 last year.
Kerr is expected to face a four-day trial in February next year where two police officers will reportedly give evidence.
Football Australia issued a statement, saying that the organisation is aware of the proceedings, however, are unable to comment further at this time because it is an ongoing legal matter.
“Our focus remains on supporting all our players, both on and off the field,” the statement said. “We will continue to monitor the situation and provide support as appropriate,”
The Matildas star is currently sidelined with a ruptured ACL after playing a pivotal role in Australia’s success during the World Cup.
