Ukraine strikes crucial retreat and resupply bridge in Russia

This is the third bridge Ukraine has attacked in the last seven days.

Ukraine struck and damaged a third and final bridge that crosses over the Seym river in the Kursk region of Russia on Monday.

According to military analysts, the strike aimed to destroy the Kursk regions only remaining resupply and retreat route. All three bridges that spanned over the Seym river have either been damaged or destroyed, potentially trapping Russian forces already stationed there.

Ukrainian Air Force commander, Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk, put out a message on Telegram with a clip of the attack.

“Minus one more bridge!” he wrote.

Ukraine launched its most recent counterattack on the Kursk region of Russia almost three weeks ago. Ukrainian troops entered the region from all directions in a surprise attack and Russian territory is now under occupation for the first time since World War II.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his evening address that this counterattack is more than just a defence for Ukraine but was launched to destroy as much of Russia’s war potential as possible.

“Our operation in the Kursk region is still inflicting losses on the Russian army and the Russian state, their defence industry and their economy,” he said.

The incursion into Russia was aimed to prevent future military attacks on Ukraine.

“This includes creating a buffer zone on the aggressor’s territory,” Zelensky said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin responded to the counterattack last Tuesday in a televised meeting with his Security Council. It was his first public appearance since Ukraine’s attacks on the Kursk region began.

“The enemy will certainly receive a worthy response, and all the goals facing us will, without a doubt, be achieved,” he said.
