Harris hits record-breaking century in WBBL

A dominant WBBL performance from Grace Harris broke records in the opening weekend of the tournament as she helped the Brisbane Heat clinch a big win.

Harris smashed 136-not-out off just 59 balls and not even a broken bat could stop her from belting the ball over the fence for six. She carried her bat and earned player of the match honours.

The WBBL kicked off last Thursday night as six action-packed games were played over the weekend.

Melbourne Stars had a game to forget against the Adelaide Strikers as the whole side was bowled out for the lowest ever WBBL score, a total of 29.

Melbourne Renegades will take on Adelaide Strikers at Junction Oval this afternoon for match seven of WBBL|09.

Aussie openers destroy Pakistan in World Cup

David Warner and Mitch Marsh were on fire at the Cricket World Cup as the pair dismantled Pakistan’s bowling attack on Friday night helping Australia to a 62-run win.

The Aussie pair put on an opening partnership of 259 runs before Marsh was dismissed for an impressive 121 off 108 balls while Warner went on to make 163 from 124 balls. The duo smashed 42 boundaries between them – this included 18 sixes.

The dominant batting display helped propel the Aussies into the top four.

Adam Zampa was a key player with the ball as he claimed four vital wickets to finish the match with figures of 4-53.

Adelaide loses undefeated status in AFLW

Adelaide Crows have lost their first game of the season and top spot on the ladder after a shock three-point loss against Brisbane Lions.

Despite kicking poorly with 5.12, the Lions stole back the lead in the final quarter to cause the upset.

There were plenty of other close games on the weekend including a draw between Port Adelaide and Gold Coast.

In other close games, Carlton overcame GWS by two points in a thriller, West Coast survived a scare against Essendon and Collingwood held onto a six-point victory against Geelong.

The ladder remains very even as the league approaches finals. Six teams sit on 16 points and will look to finish the season strongly and play finals.

Volkanovski falls short in bid for UFC title

Alexander Volkanovski was no match for Russian Islam Makhachev as he lost by TKO in the first round over the weekend.

Volkanovski was a late replacement for former lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira and had less than two weeks to prepare for the fight.

Makhachev controlled the fight as he landed multiple kicks and had the Aussie on the back foot. One kick struck Volkanovski in the head, which knocked him to the ground and drew blood.

The fight was stopped after just 3:06 in the first round as Makhachev secured victory and held onto his title.
