Guest lecture – Margaret Simons

This afternoon at 4, join author, journalist and blogger Margaret Simons at La Trobe University's Dilemmas in Journalism class to discuss ethics and online journalism. The lecture will be held in the Economics Lecture Theatre and everyone is welcome.

What issues does the rise of online media pose for journalists and bloggers? How should journalists use the web to source stories? What  impact do the accelerated deadlines of an online news environment compromise traditional journalism values? And why is the revelation of the identity of the blogger known as Grog’s Gamut been so controversial?

This afternoon Margaret Simons will join La Trobe University’s Dilemmas in Journalism: Ethical and Legal Issues class to discuss this and more. Margert is an award-winning freelance journalist and the author of seven books and numerous essays and articles. She is also a part-time lecturer at Swinburne University of Technology. You can keep track of her discussions about journalism and the media at Crikey or on her blog, The Content Makers. She is also the author of a 2007 book of the same name, and of one of the recent additions to our own list of the 100 articles that every journalist should read about journalism.

Monday’s lecture will be held at the Economics Lecture Theatre  (H4 in this map) in the Donald Whitehead Building at 4 pm.  All students and staff are most welcome.
