This morning, La Trobe Journalism welcomes John Bergin as guest lecturer for the Broadcast Journalism class.

John is the Digital News Director at Sky News Australia, where he is responsible for all online, mobile and interactive content. He studied English Literature and Political Science at the University of New South Wales, and also holds qualifications in advertising and marketing.

Prior to being a journalist, John pumped gas, baked croissants, sold websites, pushed credit cards, mopped floors, handled diodes, sliced ham, traded rags and was an intern with the NSW Labor government.  He is particularly interested in the intersection of old and new media, and when he is not reading, writing and talking you’ll find him tweeting, blogging and live-casting.

In Monday’s lecture John will explain where Sky News sits in the media landscape, and discuss the challenges facing broadcast media in the 21st century. He’ll also talk about the intersection of social media and traditional media, with an emphasis on broadcast television, and offer recommendations about the kinds of skills students should develop to get started in the industry.

All students and staff are welcome to attend the lecture, which will be held at 9AM in the Glenn College lecture theatre.
