Labor urge PM to condemn Neo-Nazi group

Labor has called for Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to condemn the homophobic material published by the Australian Neo-Nazi group.

The Australian white power group, the Antipodean Resistance, is opposing the upcoming same-sex marriage postal vote, and linking same-sex marriage to pedophilia on their posters.

The posters were glued on to the windows of the Victorian Labor party’s head office and were seen around Melbourne CBD.

“The prime minister needs to be condemning Neo-Nazi groups,” Shadow Attorney General Mark Dreyfus told reporters on Tuesday.

“It’s an extraordinary thing that he’s just remained silent in the face of ugly statements that have been made in relation to the marriage equality survey.” Dreyfus said.

The opposition had warned that such an activity would happen from far-right groups said MP Matt Thistlewaite.

“It appears that these organisations are now coming out of the woodwork because we’ve got this debate going on regarding marriage equality in Australia,” he told SBS news.

Thistlewaite said the Australian Prime Minister’s inability to get a free vote through his party room has resulted in the increased vocalisation of far-right groups.

“Because of that, gay and lesbian Australians have to face this vitriol, this divisive campaign that really they don’t deserve,” he said.

In July the neo-Nazi group claimed responsibility for the Chinese-language posters at Melbourne universities, threatening Asian students with deportation.

The group pledge allegiance to Hitler and are on the look out for more recruits to carry out Nazi-inspired vandalism.

“We are after only the most radical, dedicated and fanatical National Socialists in Australia. In the future we seek to transition to a more public platform.” a member of the group told ABC news.

Australian National University terrorism expert, Clarke Jones told ABC news that there needed to be more attention on right-wing movements.

“You see the potential for these sorts of things to escalate quite quickly, and could end in loss of life or certainly serious injury,” Jones said.
