At upstart, we’re always keen to hear what happens next to our journalism graduates. So it’s great to be able to share the news that La Trobe 2009 Bachelor of Journalism graduate Ashley Fritsch has landed a job as a third-year cadet at the  Donald Buloke Times in her home town of Donald, in the north west of Victoria.

The paper is published bi-weekly and services several country towns in the Buloke Shire.  In her role Ashley is gaining experience in all aspects of the newspaper business, including writing and researching news and feature stories, proof reading and editing, photography, and layout and design. Ashley was appointed to the job after completing a six-week paid cadetship (funded through a Regional Development Victoria scheme) with the Donald Buloke Times during semester break last year.

Did you graduate from a journalism degree in 2009? If so, upstart would like to hear from you. We’re also interested in your thoughts about the kinds of features that might help make upstart a more useful resource for those seeking to build their careers.
