Two students expelled from prestigious Melbourne private school over sexist spreadsheet

The rest of the boys involved will be receiving further disciplinary action.

Two students have been expelled from Yarra Valley Grammar today for their involvement in the ranking of girls within their cohort.

The spreadsheet was made on the communication app Discord ranking 40 girls as “wifeys”, “cuties”, “mid”, “object”, “get out” and lastly “unrapable”.

Police investigated the issue as images of the girls were circulated, resulting in a handful of male students being suspended.

Principal Dr Mark Merry involved police after the incident first came to light as the language used within the tier list could be deemed threatening.

Merry said in a letter this morning that two of the students will not be returning to school and the others who played a smaller role in the making of the spreadsheet will face a different form of disciplinary action.

“Whilst we conduct regular sessions on respectful relationships and model care and respect in all that we do; this has not been enough,” he said.

“We will be reviewing all of our programmes to ensure that the dignity of all is respected. This needs to be a learning moment for all of us.”

Merry also said that this is not just a problem within their school but within our society as a whole.

“Sexism and misogyny are ever present in our society and it is the responsibility of all of us…to stand up and make it clear that it is not acceptable anywhere,” he said.
