Charles Sturt University to offer journalism scholarships

Charles Sturt University (CSU) is offering scholarships to journalism and radio students in memory of the Peter Andren, a long serving country broadcast journalist turned politician.

The Peter Andren Memorial Scholarship is valued up to $5,000 per year and is aiming to encourage Peter Andren’s true passion – investigative journalism. His son, Josh Andren, said his father ‘had a strong belief that the media were entrusted with a public duty to record and report the events that defined our communities.’

It’s hoped that the scholarship will assist students with the purchase of a computer, media equipment, travel expenses, study costs and living expenses.

After losing his fight with cancer, Peter Andren passed away in 2007. In 2008 he was posthumously made a member of the Order of Australia ensuring that, along with the CSU journalism scholarships, his legacy will live on.

The $5,000 scholarships are available to both continuing students and students beginning their journalism and communications studies in 2011.
